MX1 Keeps Restarting/Crashing

Postby k00tj3 » Fri Jan 11, 2013 6:05 pm

My MX1 keeps restarting/crashing

Most of the times with the browser and the playstore or playing movies.

I use the charger that came with it and tried many others, but all with the same result.

I switched between diferent firmwares, but that wasnt solving it either.

Does anyone know what the problem may be?

Sincerely,

k00tj3

Yeah, there is a fix for that. Pack it again and send it back. Then order MK808b and instal Finless rom and enjoy true 1080p tv stick.

OK, maybe I sounded bit sarcastic and unmotivated ... sorry .
But from my experience, If you've got "bad device"(especially ones with blue PCBs, from Mcbub) upgrades, better adapters or even hardware modifications does not help. Asap send it back for a refund cause thats only think that left to do at the end.

Install finless Bob's 1.5 rom. Gives full 1080p, not just up-scaled 720p.
I have had no freezes or reboots since I installed finless. It's been running for weeks without a hickup.

I am still waiting for a kernel update that allows for 1.6 Ghz as the device was advertised and sold. Currently it only supports 1.2 Ghz.

I'd send it back then. Sounds like a bad board or chip.

Mine did lock-up and restart when I was running stock-rooted.
Not one lock-up since I installed Finless Bob's 1.5.

Are you using the charger and USB charging cable that came with it? You should change those for better ones.

You'll fry the CPU without some serious cooling.

Additional cooling is the plan. I just want the option. Currently HD is sketchy at 1200.

Edit: Disregard everything below as the stock rom started crashing in 1080p again but only while in Plex. So I've upgraded to the Finless 1080p rom and all is good so far. It is much slower when running Antutu benchmark and you can definitely feel the slowness while on the desktop. As others have stated, the max is 1.2ghz. That is all. Will report back if it crashes.

I would like to add that my MX1 is indeed running at 1.6ghz and not 1.2ghz. I purchased this MX1 last month and it came with the blue board and the bios from 29NOV. I also had the random crashing issue and narrowed it down to the scaling between the TV and the MX1. When I changed the display setting to 720p from 1080p, the reboots stopped completely. I am currently back at 1080p but I adjusted the scaling from the Sony TV and it has not crashed for 3 days. I'll report back if it reboots but so far so good. What I meant by scaling is, that HDMI port was originally hooked up to my PC where I needed to adjust the TV scaling so that the display would fill the entire screen. When I replaced the PC with the MX1 in that port, I didn't reset the setting from the TV but instead, I adjusted from within the MX1 display scaling setting. I don't think that agreed with the MX1 well, don't know if it is a MX1 bug or just not compatible with the TV but either way, I set the scaling back to the default setting and have been playing videos 3 days straight with no issues. I would upgrade to the 1080p bios to test that but all my PCs are running Windows 8 and the flashing software doesn't see the MX1 in Windows. So far, happy with the MX1.

Pulled the Wifi antenna out to get good reception. The wifi router is an old one and is about 30 feet away in one of the bedrooms, the TV is in the living room.

Could you test with CPU spy please?

I just ran CPU Spy and it is saying that the max usage was 1.2ghz. Disregard what I said earlier, guess I'm with everyone else.

Final update, flashed to Finless 1.5 bios and all is good. The random crash/reboots are gone.

I have both and I prefer the MX2. At least the CPU goes down when you are not using it.
