Poor Wifi

Postby firestarter2 » Tue Dec 04, 2012 7:00 pm

So it appears the units wifi is poor at a range of 15 feet from the router if its behind the TV I get 20Mb or so. If I use the HDMI port on the side I get 65Mbit at a 15 feet. Wifi is stable though but not usual able through floors which is what I needed. Though movies seem to periodically freeze

Does this device need an antenna fix?

I'm not able to get a wireless N signal on my device, although I can get 4 bars of wireless G signal from the same router.

Has anyone else experienced this ? I bought this device to stream 1080 video, and Wireless G isn't up to the task. The spec says it should support 'N'.

I've tried updating the firmware, but no success.

Any ideas ?

I solved the poor wi-fi reception by putting a ferrite core around the hdmi cable. It worked for my UG007.

You can see a ferrite core and how to install it around a cable in this page:

My cable is around the ferrite core like the image above

You can buy one from e-bay

I can see where this would help clear the HDMI signal to the monitor, but not how it would improve Wifi. I opened the UG007 case and there is a very small, square-like antenna connected by wires.

.

If i was you, I would not use WiFi at all, Unless its your only option..
As you all know WiFi is a lot slower than direct cable in the first place in terms of MBPS
and of course there is also the factor of interference, in city and built up areas which pull the signal down at ANY time.

If you want FULL SPEED wired cable,
you could watch the link below and make up your own mind.

It appears to be an issue with poor ground planes on the PCB. There's a couple of ways around it, I just unstuck the antenna from the cover and moved to outside so it's now a couple of inches from the PCB. Perfect 802.11n reception.
