1080p android kernel

Postby deadhp1 » Sun Nov 25, 2012 3:22 am

I built a 1080p mk808 kernel based on the riko source and all the great info here.
It will work on a 720p or 1080p tv. The user interface will always be 1080p.
Wireless isn't working yet, but usb ethernet does work.
I haven't test much else other than it can boot the beta 2 mk808 release, netflix works.(with hardware acceleration)

Once I test it further and get wireless working I'll release an image based on the beta 2 firmware.

What other drivers do you want built in to the kernel?
Webcams?
extra usb ethernet?
xbox controller?
Anything else?

For now here is the kernel I am testing with.

I'll look into adding drivers for that.

For now I built a new kernel last night.
It has working wifi for the MK808. The wifi doesn't have any fixes applied yet, so it's just as spotty as usual.
I've allowed the config to be seen in /proc/config.gz
So it should be pretty easy for others to build with the same settings.
kernel.zip

I've also repacked this into the mk808 JB beta 2 Firmware and have a working 1080p rom.(1080x1032 display in antutu)
I had to lower the cpu to 1416Mhz from 1608Mhz with setcpu 2.2.4. It was crashing at higher speeds.
I scored an 8189 in the new antutu benchmark.

It is available in the Google Drive mirror.(mk808 firmware---> 1080p_test)

(mk808_beta4_1080p_test.zip)

or from ultramegabit(mk808_beta4_1080p_test.zip)

Thank you dead!

I've tested this new version and now my resolution is 1920x1032.
The interface seems a quite slower but the resolution is perfect!.

Thank you
Daniele

What's the best way of applying these kernels. Is there a program on the market or should I use the rock chip flash tool. Cheers.

Hello, deadhp1, this is almost my first message here.
Thank you for your roms. This last one with 1080 is great. With a good wifi will be a dream.

Thanks again.

I'd love xbox-controller support. Only problem is that for some odd reason it's not possible to separate the input if using more than one controller. It works well in Ubuntu, which is odd since, I assume, it's using the same module.

I added xpad support for the xbox controller inside this kernel already.

I'm not sure what I could do for the wifi. I have a pretty good idea that the rk901 will only connect reliably to routers on the 20mhz band.
If I try to connect to my n-only router set to 20/40mhz the mk808 will drop connections frequently.
When I connect to my g/n router set to 20mhz only I get no disconnects.
The driver source for the bmc4329(rk901) looks like it only supports up to 65mbps.

Just finished making the UG802 1080p android kernel.
I couldn't get wifi working with the rk30_hotdog_defconfig, so I had to use the rk30_hotdog_ti_defconfig.
Now wifi is working for the UG802.
Performance is less than the MK808 due to not having a heatsink. Seems to heat up quickly and looks like it limits the cpu to 1200 and then to 1008.
So I score 6211 in antutu for the first go.

I had been using my UG802 JB preview firmware for testing. It's based off the MK802 III kernel/boot combo.
So I split the kernel and boot.img.
So this upload contains the UG802 1080p kernel and the MK802 III boot.img to make things a bit easier.
This should also work for the MK802 III.

1080p_ug802_kernel.zip

I'll be uploading the 1080p JB Preview image to the UG802 firmware section.

Nice job,

It would be nice to have modules for
wifi Ralink 3070
as well as DVB-T eg dvb-core.ko, dvb-usb.ko, mt2060.ko, mxl5005s.ko, tda18271.ko, qt1010.ko, af9013.ko, dvb-pll.ko, dvb-usb-af9015.ko.

By the way which instruction did you follow to compile?
Do we need to make full kernel to have compatible modules?
- some modules are inserted some get response: failed (no such file or directory) and in dmesg: Unknown symbol malloc_sizes (err 0)

With the UG802.. is this a stable kernel?
What benefit does it offer besides 1080p?
Are movies playing choppy or smooth true 1080p?
Any better or worse then 720p?

The ug802 1080p kernel seems very stable. I've been testing it for about 12 hours playing videos.
I haven't had a single crash on the ug802.
The cursor isn't slightly choppy like on the MK808 1080p.(the mk808 kernel is faster though)
I'd say that video performance is the same as the 720p kernel.
Basically it feels like nothing has changed except the resolution.
I'm loading it onto most of my ug802s.
I'm quite happy with the results.

hi deadhp1. how did you compile this kernel?

which kernel are you using? I forked AndrewDB's kernel.
however I have a error like
"/drivers/net/wireless/wifi_sys/rkwifi_sys_iface.c:152:1: fatal error: opening dependency file drivers/net/wireless/wifi_sys/.rkwifi_sys_iface.o.d: No such file or directory"

I'm using the rikomagic kernel source from AndrewDB.
I compiled using arm-eabi-4.4.3 toolchain.
For the MK808 I used rk30_hotdog_defconfig and for the UG802 I used rk30_hotdog_ti_defconfig.
I removed the entry for vpu_service.o in plat-rk/makefile in order to get it to compile.

I've enabled /proc/config.gz so you can find the .config there.

I've been asked to make a version of the MK808 1080p kernel that has a max of 1416MHZ instead of 1608MHZ due to stability reasons.
It's not much different than the last one except it has any cpu speeds over 1416MHZ removed.
kernel_mk808_test6_1416mhz.zip

I'll also have the 1416MhZ 1080p MK808 beta 2 rom up in the Firmware section in a couple of minutes.

I have downloaded and installed the kernel on the Finless Bob's 1.5a ROM.

What works -
1920x1032 res.
WiFi
Xbmc @ full res
Youtube @ full res
Almost everything else.

What does not...
At the boot time, the finless boot splash (not the animation) is distorted. (not a major issue, but can do with improving aesthetics)
Yet to find anything major that does not.

So great job done guys !!! well done.

Alok

Like a couple of others already asked. How do you just flash the kernel?

Anyone willing to give these steps it would be highly appreciated by a couple of people (including me)
