Beebuu--

Most of the questions you're asking can easily be found on the PicUntu website. Long story short:

1. flash the kernel image to recovery, not kernel
2. after flashing the picuntu kernel to recovery, boot up into Android; your device should do this automatically
3. assuming you're using a rooted rom like finless 1.6 (specifically recommended on the PicUntu website): from android, use the reboot app to reboot into recovery; Picuntu should then boot to the commandline. After that, you're kind of on your own.

Go to the PicUntu website: http://ubuntu.g8.net. All of the above is fairly clearly explained.

You can install picuntu kernel to the default boot rom instead of recovery partition, or you can follow instructions here, and it will boot picuntu if SD card present:

viewtopic.php?f=4&t=738&start=20#p4528

remember you need to use smanager to ensure the script runs at boot.
