Power consumption and some other questions

Postby UNeverNo » Wed Jan 16, 2013 10:50 am

Can someone tell me avg. and max. power consumption without any attached USB-device?

Do you think I will save some power not using wifi and using usb-ethernet instead (I guess powering ethernet will need some power too)?

What kind of powered usb hub will I need if I plan to use the bare mk808 with a sd-card (no mouse/keyboard/display/...)?

Do you know if those hubs can scale power depending on the need of mk808 or will they take the same amount all the time, e.g. 10W?

I plan using it as a private webserver + mysql running 24/7...

Thanks in advice

since its delivered with powersuply which outputs 1A @ 5V it shouldnt be more than 5 watt max. i would guess 3-4 watt avareged (without the transformating loss)

from my little writeup on the mk808:

- I stuck a killawatt on it. 1w sleep, 2w idle (screen on), 4w under max load (AnTuTu benchmark cpu).

This is with wifi disabled, usb to rj45 adapter, and logitech k400 wireless keyboard.

Thanks for your reply. It was really helpful (I found nowhere the information whether it is microsd or microsdhc :))

Which power consumption did you measure? From the power supply? And what is a killawatt?

I ordered it yesterday directly from china (aliexpress) for 47 USD plus VAT, but I would have to pay VAT for ordering from the US, too. So the deal should be ok. Delivery should be done in 3-7 days plus up to 5(!) days for shipping preparation.

Nice info...
But what is sleep mode?
Another query, you mentioned 2w idle (screen on). Since these device doesn't have display, does it make any difference in screen on or off?

This is a killawatt:

Basically you plug the killawatt into an ac outlet then your device into the killawatt and it displays all sorts of useful information.

What I'm calling sleep mode is specifically on the logitech k400 there is a power button. If I press it it puts the mk808 to sleep as far as I can tell. It basically cuts off the hdmi out so nothing gets displayed and drops power usage by 1w.
if I press the power button on the keyboard again it instantly comes back on.

Not sure how you would do it through the UI or if there is some app that does the same thing.

Return to “MK808”
