Serial Port!

Postby deadhp1 » Sat Dec 15, 2012 7:35 am

The GK802 has solder points for 3.3v serial access.
I used a FTDI 3.3v USB to serial breakout from sparkfun to access it.

There are 3 wires that need to be connected.
I connected the RX(GK802) to the TX(usb serial module) and the TX(GK802) to the RX(usb serial module).
The GND is the last wire needed to make the connection.
I had a more elegant solution, but the headers I purchased were slightly too big for the holes.
For now I've got the cable running out the same end as the HDMI port with the tiny cover removed.

I setup minicom to run on /dev/ttyUSB0 at 115200 8n1 with no soft/hard.

I'm now able to get serial output of the uboot, kernel, and console.
The uboot that's currently installed can't be interrupted because it has a bootdelay=0.
I've hexedited the original uboot to have bootdelay=5 and flashed it back to my GK802's internal sd card.
Now I can interrupt the uboot and read the environment using printenv.

It's a pretty big step so far.
I'll be posting up logs in the development section.
