GK802 Official Firmware Updates

Postby deadhp1 » Thu Dec 20, 2012 8:59 pm

12/20/2012
Geekbuying has released the first official firmware update for the Zealz GK802.
I've mirrored "RT-M500A_V1.65.3.zip" at ultramegabit.com
http://ultramegabit.com/file/details/9sp-7sZ3QuE

I've also mirrored "RT-M500A_V1.65.3.zip" on the Google Drive account.

I believe Zeal and geekbuying are violating the GPL wrt the Linux kernel. When you distribute (sell, give away), modified-or-not, GPL code, you must provide your customer the source code and the instruction how to rebuild.
Zeal and geekbuying have never provide us the source code (+patch) and the exact info how to rebuild the kernel image for the gk802. Pointing to freescale web pages is not good enough. The freescale pages show how to build the kernel image for a different board. Zeal and geekbuying should provide us, the customer:
  • the exact version of the kernel including the git commit hash (or a tar ball of the modified kernel source).
  • the source code (or patches) of all the modifications (no need for this if the full modified kernel source was provided).
  • the version of the toolchain used to build the kernel.
  • the config used to build the kernel (the live /proc/config.gz looks really strange.)

Hi deadhp1
The question is still whether the planned update to android 4.1 gk802 whether this model is written off. Unfortunately, optimization in 3D is the software in FullHD weak. I wonder if you have to wait for updates, or look at a different product.

I think zealz is way over their heads hasn't been an update since Jan 20th and one was promised at end of Feb..... It's now April still no word of an update being soon released so don't expect much progress on the android side however jashacks and crew have been doing great work with Linux and given the gk802 an advantage over other tv sticks zealz owes them bigtime

Is the transfer of the new kernel "Linux - Ubuntu 12.04 preview (Jas Hacks)" to "Android" will be complicated? However, with a lot of Android applications is more convenient for a simple user.
