Any idea the ATV120 would be available?

Postby smithmal » Fri Oct 05, 2012 11:02 am

Geniatech has developed a dual core A9 Amlogic-MX "Android on a Stick" unit (ATV120), but I have no idea when it will be available without a group buy. Presently made-in-china.com is selling at a minimum order of 1,000 units:

http://www.made-in-china.com/showroom/abbey0411/product-detailhqXmfpHTYbGZ/China-Dual-Core-Android-TV-Stick-ATV120-.html

I'm interested in this unit as it's kernal source is already released and therefore would be the easiest to mod for. Does anyone have any additional information on this unit in terms of availability?

Thanks,

smithmal

I wasn't even able to order a sample for my project.
They only deal with companies and not with individuals so I tried to use my INC name and only got a canned response.
I'm very interested in this stick too. It might as well be vaporware until a sample can actually be purchased.

If anyone can find a place to actually buy this it would be amazing!

Have you seen this? Same processor?

The PC-on-a-stick features an Amlogic AML8726-MX ARM Cortex-A9 processor

jlcd,

Great find on the G-Box Dyno. Below is a unboxing video of it:

http://www.geeky-gadgets.com/g-box-dyno-android-4-0-mini-pc-hands-on-video-28-09-2012/

From what I saw the unit performed adequate although I don't have other Android on a stick units to compare from. I noted the author had issues with YouTube however it came fully loaded with XBMC and with the Amlogic kernal, it should come with full HW accleration (which is not easy to find on a Android type device). The only alarming thing was the crappy wifi although the poster did indicate he was tethering the unit to his phone's 3G signal so that very well could have been the issue.

Price seems very competitive ($69) and it looks like it's available now through Ebay.

I may actually take a flyer on this unit...

Here's another poster providing a review of the Dyno: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8dBIPIfOhn0&feature=relmfu
A little more video of it's smoothness and ability to use XBMC. Shockingly once again we have another poster using 3G for wireless (I guess this is a big thing?) although this thing would more than likely predominantly be used as a HTPC type replacement. The strength of the WiFi antenna for this thing is the only thing that is a bit of a unknown. Other than that, it would seem to be the best Android on a Stick product out right now.

deadhp1, perhaps you could make a G-Box Dyno sub-section under the Amlogic 8726 subforum?

I think it actually is not a dual core, the chip seems to be the AML8726-M3, no MX.

Yes, but must be a mistake because also says:

The PC-on-a-stick features an Amlogic AML8726-MX ARM Cortex-A9 processor. That’s the same chip used in Diamond Multimedia AMP1000, although the G-Box Dyno costs sells for just over half the price of that media player.

The Diamond Multimedia AMP1000 is powered by a 1 GHz AMlogic AM8726 ARM Cortex-A9 single core processor with Mali 400 graphics

Confused...

Here's what it says on the vendor's webpage:

What makes the Dyno special is the Amlogic Cortex A9 Neon CPU and Mali400 GPU under it’s tiny hood.

http://androidtvbox.us/products/g-box-dyno/

I'm assuming since they didn't specify dual Cortex A9 then it's single core. Plus I belived the the mx has a dual core Mali400 GPU as well. I can't specifically say from the pic above what the cpu is as the pic is low resolution.

I've asked a question on the products forum page and hopefully I'll get a response:

Looks like the geniatech atv120 will be available from kimdecent as the Droid Stick A2.
http://www.cnx-software.com/2012/10/10/ ... 1-mini-pc/
if you look at the placement of the IR port and the micro-usb you can see it's the same PCB.

I've been waiting for this.

Found the following info on the Droid Stick A2:

The Droid Stick A2 isn’t available yet, but it should be ready for sale by the first week of November. Pricing hasn’t surfaced yet, but with similar guts available in Shanzai tablets for about $110, it’s a safe bet that the Droid Stick A2 should be competitive with similar devices like the $89 “MK802 killer” that popped up back in August.
