MK809 and MK809II firmware type (rk30_hotdog)

Postby Boeboe » Fri Feb 22, 2013 1:07 pm

Hi all,

I bought myself a Point of View HDMI Stick: http://www.pointofview-online.com/showroom.php?shop_mode=product_detail&product_id=356
productcode: TV-HDMI-KB-01 (MK809)

Operating system Google Android 4.1 Jelly Bean
Processor Dual Core RK3066 1.6 GHz
Graphics processor Quad Mali-400
System memory 1024 MB DDR3
Storage memory 4 GB
WiFi 802.11 b/g/n
USB Connections 1x mini USB (charging), 1x USB 2.0
Graphics connections HDMI v1.4
Card reader micro SD

This one I have should not be confused with this one: http://www.pointofview-online.com/showroom.php?shop_mode=product_detail&product_id=372
productcode: TV-HDMI-200BT (MK809II)

Operating system Google Android 4.1 Jelly Bean
Processor Dual Core RK3066 1.6 GHz
Graphics processor Quad Mali-400
System memory 1024 MB DDR3
Storage memory 4 GB NAND
WiFi 802.11 b/g/n
Bluetooth Yes, v2.1
USB Connections 2x micro, 1x USB 2.0
Graphics connections HDMI v1.4
Card reader micro SD

The second one has Bluetooth onboard, mine has not (as I could verify in Android on original firmware). The visual mapping between both dongles from Point Of View and there MK80xy type can be found on the following url:
http://www.mk809.com

MK809 > no BT
MK809II > with BT

Now I want to create my own firmware for this so I fetched the kernel sources from git (https://github.com/AndrewDB/rk3066-kernel). I now need to know which defconfig I should run in order to get the proper functionality in my kernel. As you can see in the sources, there are quiet some options:
    arch/arm/configs/rk3066_sdk_defconfig
    arch/arm/configs/rk30_hamburger_defconfig
    arch/arm/configs/rk30_hotdog_defconfig
    arch/arm/configs/rk30_hotdog_ti_defconfig
    arch/arm/configs/rk30_pizza_defconfig
    arch/arm/configs/rk30_sdk_defconfig

From my original firmware and looking at the traces with logcat I noticed that the following WIFI driver is loaded when en/dis-abling my WIFI in Android: RTL8188EU. The weird thing is that this driver is only enabled in the hotdog and hotdog_ti kernel def config's. When I take a look at the original Firware name, it reads "rk30sdk-eng 4.1.1 JRO03H ...", which made my originally thinkg I needed rk30_sdk_defconfig. I guess this is wrong and I need to select rk30_hotdog_defconfig or rk30_hotdog_ti_defconfig. Taking a look at the difference between these two, the latter one has a few extra options set:

Code: Select all

diff -y --suppress-common-lines arch/arm/configs/rk30_hotdog_defconfig arch/arm/configs/rk30_hotdog_ti_defconfig
                           >   CONFIG_RK30_I2C_INSRAM=y
                           >   CONFIG_MFD_TPS65910=y
                           >   CONFIG_REGULATOR_TPS65910=y
                           >   CONFIG_RK30_PWM_REGULATOR=y
                           >   CONFIG_TPS65910_RTC=y

I can't figure out which one is the right one out of them. Anyone has an idea about it?

Best regards,
Bart

PS: I noticed there is no forum sub topic yet for the MK809 and MK809II under "Board index >> Rockchip RK3066 >> ... ". Maybe a good idea to create one?

FYI, small update...

Starting from the following post (http://www.armtvtech.com/armtvtechforum/viewtopic.php?f=66&t=835) and following the steps (modifications in .config) using rk30_hotdog_ti_defconfig as a base set, worked fine for me.

I'm pretty sure that the MK809 is basically the same as the MK802III.
The MK809II is looks to be the same as the UG007.

Hi Boeboe, could you insert your custom kernel and rom in the MK809?

I want to buy one, but only if I can customize. And I didn't the official kernel used in this gadget.

Hi. I was using this MK809 II when suddenly ended the electricity ... When I started it again, the wireless keyboard didn't work over, only the mouse, and even then, after a while it stops working, forcing me to unplug and plug back in the usb dongle android mini pc to get it to work again. Interestingly, there was a moment when I was pressing some keys on the keyboard and a few letters appeared on the screen but quickly stopped working again and never returned. Is there any way to solve this problem? Already reseted the device but to no avail. Does anyone here know any solution? Thanks.
