Root MK808?

Postby szantinge » Tue Sep 25, 2012 3:26 pm

I have seen someone on Liliputing (http://liliputing.com/2012/09/kimdecent ... 6-cpu.html) posting the following:

"genny gen•4 hours ago−

Attention, this device with android 4.1 have disabled the adb and the developer mode in settings. it is a closed device and not easy to root.
for now the best is UG802 but have same bug in the wifi in the stock ROM
"

Don't know, but this doesn't look promissing. Don't know what this genny gen dude knows about the mk808... If someone has other information I'd like to hear. Maybe Deadhp1 can shine his light over this when he gets his device.

I just got my mk808. I haven't rooted it yet, but probably will in a little bit.
The settings screen doesn't have an ADB option anywhere that I can find.

I'll post back after I do some exploring.

First off in order to connect the MK808 to the computer you should plug your usb cable into the OTG Port. That way the MK808 is powered by the computer and the computer will detect it.

I have enabled adb on my mk808. There are 2 ways that I know of to do it.

A) By installing Launcher Pro and making a new shortcut that points to Development Settings(which is missing in the normal settings menu.)
Shortcuts->Activities->Settings->Development (com.android.settings.DevelopmentSettings)
Enable USB Debugging.

B) Install Terminal emulator and type:

Code: Select all

am start -a android.intent.action.main -n com.android.settings/.DevelopmentSettings

Enable USB Debugging when settings pops up.

I already have moborobo installed from the UG802 root. It detected the device and installed the drivers.
I found this thread http://vondroid.com/threads/root-instru ... -only.680/ by Piers
Which explains how to root.
Copy and pasted below:

"This guide assumes you already have adb drivers installed.

1) Download the attached file.
2) Run TPSparkyRoot.bat
3) Follow the on-screen instructions

Credit to sunnydavid. I have edited the .bat and removed Chinese characters as well as making the instructions clear on a step-by-step basis. "

This guide didn't install SuperSU for me, so I downloaded it from the market.

I am now fully rooted on my MK808 Yay!

I'll post a much better how to in a little bit.
