Display resolution

Postby croccodillo » Tue Jan 08, 2013 8:21 am

Hello all,

I bought an MK808 from Geekbuying, it should be on its way to Italy...
My idea is to use it as a secondary HTPC in my kitchen, connected to a small TV set.
I'm now searching for a suitable, used TV.
My question: Is quite difficult to find a relatively small (15/19") TV set with a right 16:9 HD resolution (1280×720), so, what will happen if I connect a 4:3 TV set (I found a nice one with a 1024x758 resolution), or a TV with a different resolution (1440x900)?
Do I have to compile a kernel for every single resolution, or will the MK808 recognize it and adapt its output?
In other wold: a kernel is compiled against a fixed resolution or can handle more than one, and with different proportions (16:9, 16:10, 4:3).

Please help me.

Best regards,
Giovanni

Resolution Problem

I am up in Xubuntu on my MK808. I Can open the program and operate. I have tried to change the resolution. It will not let me. It seems to stay in default, which I believe is 1080. How can I change it. If it takes command line, I can do it if the codes are posted.

Thx.

Same for me,
I think you have to recompile the kernel, in the config you can change to 720p.

I have run "xrander" from terminal. It says 1920x1080, for min, max, and default. Is there any reason for this Xubuntu ROM giving no other resolution options? I am running my HDMI output through a digital to analog converter to a VGA flat screen of about 20". This setup ran quite normally in Finless Bob 1.6. Per "Read Me" file from Finless Bob 1.6, it was running 1280x720. Is there a simple reason or solution?

Thx.

@ Gottfried
the graphics chip on the MK808 doesn't support more then 1920x1080.
Xubuntu is running on this resolution, to run android in a higher res you have to flash one of the 1080p kernels posted on this forum.
