Will the custom ROMs for the MK808 work on the MK808B?

I'll be checking that out when I get my MK808B.

For now I'm uploading a rooted version of this firmware.

Hi,

I was wondering whether this could be used on the MK808 with a usb bluetooth dongle?

The dongle that I have is device ID 0a12:0001 Cambridge Silicon Radio, Ltd Bluetooth Dongle (HCI mode).

I suppose there are 2 questions:

1. Can this FW be used on an mk808 without bricking it?

2. Which chipset of bluetooth does the MK808B use and is this compatible with my dongle?

Thanks
Jez

1. This firmware can be used on the original MK808. It will not brick it. I've tested it on mine.
2. The MK808B uses the RK903 wifi/bt combo chip. The original MK808 used the RK901. Both are based on a Broadcom chipset.
It will most likely not be compatible with your dongle. I believe your best bet toward using a usb bt dongle is the Cyanogenmod 10 firmware.

Thanks deadhp1, very informative reply.

Incidentally, are there an benefits that you have found from using the 808B fw on the 808?

Cheers
Jez

I got my MK808B today with a nasty autostart of a ugly media player, think it was an old eHomeMediaplayer or something. Couldnt get it to go away.
So I flashed the stick with the stock MK808 (I didnt know I had a MK808B at that time). After this I lost Bluetooth and WIFI wouldnt start.
Did some googling and found out I had a MK808B and found this site with stock firmware. Flashed it but no go on the Wifi or Bluetooth. Open the case and found i had a Mediatek MT5931 (Bluetooth 2.1: Mediatek MT6622) unit in mine. Not a RK903 as i seen elsewhere.

Anyone having the firmware for this configuration?
It actully says MK808 on the PCB and under it V103C

Here is an update on my "MK808B"
I was in contact with the seller and he gave me the MX1 Firmware. Now i can start Bluetooth but Wifi still dead. An other thing is that i cant power it through the dedicated power port, it will just show the MX1 logo then the picture goes out and the blue led on the PCB goes out as well. But if i power it through the OTG port i can boot into Android.
But if i upload e.g the MK808B Firmware i can power the stick through the dedicated power port.

I've attached the PCB pictures and as you can see its printed MK808 on it, thats caused the confusion.

I dont know how hard it is but if possible someone could make a MK808B firmware with both WIFI/BT chip drivers, the RK903 and MediaTek. I think more and more people will get this MK808B lookalike and end up flashing with wrong firmware.

Did that even come with a heatsink?
That MK808 model is probably not named correctly. It's not a real MK808B.
We don't have any kernel source with the Mediatek drivers, so there is no way I can build a kernel for the "copied" MK808B.
Since it looks to be based on the original MK808, the MX1 firmware won't work correctly most likely due to using a different power controller.
The only thing you can really do is to keep trying to get an official firmware update from the seller.
This is a very serious issue and it should never of been named the same as the MK808B.

Nope, no heatsink. It dont get very hot either. Been watching movies, both HW and SW decoded and it was not so very hot, not like my old MK802 :)

Cant the drivers be extracted from a working or rooted MX1 unit? I read somewhere that MediaTek have released the driver source code. Dont know if it true but can that help?

I will talk to the seller again about it.
Im having a new MK808B coming this friday, will check the PCB before i hand it over to my friend and if im lucky (depends how you see it) it could be a fake MK808B, then i can extract the firmware and live happily ever after.
