How to permanently hide the status bar?

Postby e-r-a-n » Sat Dec 22, 2012 8:43 am

I have the x5 + remote and its working great..
however, the status bar makes mx player to not run on full screen, everythings is resized to a bit less and causes black stripes when playing movies.
Is there any way to hide it?
Also, is there a way to map special functionality to the external keyboard buttons?
I currently have installed the "external keyboard helper" to have two layouts support but could realize how to map special buttons, e.g making F1 to open recent apps

There is :
http://ppareit.github.com/HideBar/
However.. it needs root.. and costs money

I'm also dis-pleased with google's effort in making a free fix for this problem

Other option is to install a differend 'home laucher' (i read somewhere)
Or use a differend player like Vplayer
Or use any off the Custom firmwares

For the second Q : Perhaps... gesturebuilder

Cheers..

i have rooted my device the moment i opened it :-)
I tried hidebar but it didnt do anything when pressing the arrows on the bar.

about different player, what would you suggest that supports DTS and has HW accel. ?
I dont mind custom roms, but are there any?
I didnt find something interesting..

hidebar says it needs, beyond rooting, SuperUser and BusyBox. Do you have both apps installed?

I have not gotten around to testing it myself, yet (I received my X5 a few days ago). I was going to test one of the launchers out there when I found some time. Usually one of them has the ability to hide the bar.

So perhaps look into installing one of the launcher programs:
Nova Launcher
Go Launcher EX
Apex
ADW

Let me know if those work while using the app.

I found that the new archos media player app plays the movie without the bar (no root for me). Honestly there are two reaaaaaally slim vertical bars. My problem is that i'm not able to use the remote with this app

Yes. I bought the app with a cellphone and then i took the apk....it works but the movie screen is a bit slimmer than the tv screen...but it's better than the mxplayer.i don't think it will be my default player cause the remote doesn't work

hide bar hides the status bar in any app.. I have used it on over 10 devices without issue, to the op if it is not working properly for you make sure you have busybox installed and that you actually opened the app and installed it. If that doesnt work then IDK you would be the first that it hasnt for

OK, i dont know what was the issue
after installing again and rebooting, its now working.
thank you.

Archos player really is very nice, but it seems that any of the players freeze and cause reboot once trying to play .avi files..
mkv is great though :)

Sweet. Is this newer than the 4.1.1 firmware that currently ships with the device? (my about device page says I have version 4.1.1)

yes, it is newer.
the rk flash tool cant seem to identify my device when plugged in.
could it be that there's issues with win7 64bit?

Try "full!screen". This is a free version that is working well so far. Gives you system bar options while hiding it. Didn't see this mentioned above, but scanned quickly.

Good luck
